Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you register, we collect your name, email address, date of birth (for age verification), country, username, and avatar.

User-generated content: Recipes, images, descriptions, and comments you submit are stored in our cloud database.

Usage data: We may collect information about how you interact with the service, such as preferred language, theme, inventory data, and shopping lists. These preferences are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and are not transmitted to our servers unless you submit them.

Authentication token: We use a JSON Web Token (JWT) stored in your browser’s localStorage to keep you logged in. This token expires after 7 days.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and manage your account
• To verify your age for legal compliance
• To provide and personalize the service (recipes, suggestions, inventory)
• To send transactional emails (account verification, payment receipts, policy updates)
• To enforce our Terms of Service and prevent abuse
• To respond to legal requests and DMCA notices

3. How We Store & Protect Your Data

Database: Your account and content data are stored in a cloud database (Turso/libSQL) hosted on Amazon Web Services (US-East region). Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plaintext.

Encryption: Data in transit is protected via HTTPS/TLS. Payment data is handled entirely by our payment processor and never touches our servers.

Avatar images: If you upload a profile photo, it is resized to 256×256 pixels and stored as a data URL in our database.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Bartools. Each has its own privacy policy:

• Turso (libSQL): Cloud database hosting (AWS)
• LemonSqueezy: Payment processing (subscription billing). LemonSqueezy collects payment information (card number, billing address) directly — we never see or store your card details
• Resend: Transactional email delivery (account notifications)
• Groq: AI-powered content moderation (automated review of submitted recipes)

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

5. Cookies & Local Storage

Bartools uses localStorage (not tracking cookies) to store: localStorage

• Your authentication token (hb_token) (hb_token)
• Your cached user profile (hb_user) (hb_user)
• Your preferences (language, theme, units)
• Your personal inventory and shopping list (per device)

We set a NEXT_LOCALE cookie to remember your language preference. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics tracking, or third-party ad networks.

6. Your Rights & Data Control

• Access: You can view your account information in Settings
• Correction: You can edit your profile, avatar, username, and preferences at any time
• Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and associated content by emailing support@bartools.app. We will remove your account data within 30 days
• Opt-out: You can cancel your subscription at any time

If you are a resident of the European Union or California, you have additional rights under the GDPR and CCPA, respectively. If you are a resident of Türkiye, you have additional rights under the KVKK (Kişisel Verilerin Korunması Kanunu). To exercise these rights, contact us at support@bartools.app.

7. Children’s Privacy

Bartools is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately. Alcoholic beverage content is restricted to users of legal drinking age.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days. Recipe content you submitted to the community may be retained if it has been approved and published (per the license granted in our Terms), but will be disassociated from your identity.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
